Series: Collaborative praxis

‘Collaborative praxis is a vibe!’

In a society where many of us have been forced to think less critically about the impact we have on ourselves and others. We lose opportunities for authenticity. I argue since we have all been dehumanised in one way or the other, we must rehumanise collectively and with thyself.  To rehumanise is to reclaim our humanity and liberate our minds by showing acceptance, empathy, compassion, and love towards eachother. However, we can’t love others unless we develop ways to love our authentic selves first, which is a rehumanising process. The Let’s Rehumanise Podcast series is a way for me to vibe and engage critical dialogue with students, academics, activist, corporate and community leaders and many more. Guests will share their work and personal stories on how they flip the script to normative oppressing narratives in any of their respective disciplines and what rehumanising means to them.

Series: Is Ball Life?

‘Ball-is-life but there is much more to life than ball!’

Sports became a gateway of opportunities for myself throughout my life experience. However, as a former Division 1 and professional athlete I didn’t take the time to explore alternative career options, as ball was life. Many young people in our society become student-athletes and/or professionals, but once that’s over, the question is what’s next? The “Is Ball Life?” series provides an opportunity for athletes, coaches, trainers, parents, and sporting organisations to flip the script and vibe with me. To be specific, it is for high school and collegiate athletes to reflect on their current sport’s status and what goals they have for the future within and outside their sport. Second is with professionals, coaches, trainers, and directors reflecting on their journey’s and how they navigate their current profession. Guests will unpack the ways in which ‘ball-is-life, but there is so much more to life than ball’, which creates a space for rehumanising with those involved in sport.

Episode 2: Ingredients for change: Towards Decolonising Local Histories in Schools

Our wonderful viber Shabana Marshall is a senior lecturer at St. Mary’s University, Twickenham, and a PhD student at Durham University’s Sociology department. As an educator of Punjabi origin, Shabana seeks to flip the Britishness script by researching decolonisation and its relation to local history. Specifically, understanding the ways in which teachers teach historical “heroes”, who on one end are celebrated by their wider local community for their accolades, but on the other end are dehumanisers associated with acts of colonial violence (e.g., Captain James Cook). As statues and names of once-celebrated “heroes” are being removed in certain arenas this research is crucial for educational spaces to create an inclusive curriculum and challenge imperial nostalgia. We sum up this conversation by identifying resilient minority (ReM) folks have the rehumanising ingredients for anyone with an appetite for equity, diversity, inclusion and love in education. The best way forward in Shabana’s perceptions is to be open, listen and reflect on people’s stories and the nuances within them. Please tune in if you want to hear Shabana’s personal story and transformative work to rehumanise. 😊 <3
